Exercise...

OK. I somehow went a week without going to the gym.  Saturday work, followed by a late night out, some tasty beverages made Sunday AM workout beyond my reach.

But I am back today. I did 30 minutes on the upright elliptical.  I am up 1 lb. I understand this is a process and have not thrown in the towel.  Hopefully next week will be back to where I was.

LJ Facebook/Twitter work around to get rid of the annoying boxes

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] beren_writes at LJ Facebook/Twitter work around to get rid of the annoying boxes
stolen from [livejournal.com profile] pombagira who pulled it from someone else who pulled it from yet another person :) Yes, this is signal boosting.

Passing this along from my flist.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] midniterose, here is how to stop the crossposting of comments/entries from LJ to sites like Facebook:

There is a way to disable everything. Here is what you have to do:

1. Go to your "Journal" menu, and select "Journal Style"
2. To the right, you'll see what theme you're using, with a link stating "Customize Your Theme". Click that link.
3. Scroll down a little ways, and you'll see that on the left side of your screen, you have multiple options to modify your theme. Click on the "Custom CSS" link, and it should load the options for doing Custom CSS.
4. From here, all you have to do is go to the "Custom Stylesheet", and put in that line.

.b-repost-item {display:none}

once you have it pasted in there, save changes.

Feel free to PASS THIS ON!!

ETA: This prevents the "repost to FB/Twitter" ticky boxes from being displayed when someone comments on one of your posts. It seems to work, UNLESS the person is viewing your page in their own journal style, in which case it might not work.

ETA2: Inserting the code below in your custom CSS box reportedly works for more kinds of journal styles, including custom ones (this courtesy of xnguard):

.b-repost-item, FORM#qrform > TABLE[style="border: 1px solid black;"]:last-child TD[style="vertical-align: top; text-align: right;"]:first-child { display: none !important; }

Having stolen all of this, I FINALLY understand a friend's post. If this doesn't work on MY LJ, I state here, don't report whatever ramblings I may choose to post.

THANKS

Boosting signal "I Write Like" Scam

It's not an innocent meme - not only does it not match your writing style to some famous author's, it's free publicity for a vanity press, and not even a semi-decent vanity press (I know, I know, is there such a creature? Why, yes, the ones that admit up front they are vanity presses. That doesn't mean they are legit publishers, just honest about what they offer), but a sleazy formerly Christian vanity press. What is it with Christians suddenly doing all these sleazy things?

Time was, you could at least trust that most Christians were decent human beings. Now, you have to check the backgrounds of all of them because the ones you thought you could trust? You can't. And the ones that look maybe a bit sleazy? Those are good people. Sometimes.

Anyway, Making Light has the low down on this one.

They don't need the free publicity.

Food Safety Info/Reusable Bags

A lot of this is common sense but I thought I'd pass it on...

TUCSON, Ariz. – Reusable grocery bags, which are being widely touted in the growing "green" movement, can serve as a breeding ground for dangerous food-borne bacteria and pose a serious public health risk, according to a joint food-safety research study issued on June 24 by University of Arizona (Tucson) and Loma Linda University (Loma Linda, Calif.) researchers.

Torchwood to return for fourth series

The Doctor Who spin-off show has been given the green light after the BBC secured US funding

John Barrowman and Eve Myles are to return for a fourth series of the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood, after the BBC securing funding from the US cable network Starz Entertainment.

Barrowman, as Captain Jack Harkness, and Myles, as Gwen Cooper, will be working along with new cast members on the new 10-part series with a team of writers led by Torchwood's creator, Russell T Davies.

The new series will be a three-way co-production between BBC Wales, which made the previous series, Starz and the corporation's commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, which distributes the show.

Torchwood has previously been shot on location in and around BBC Wales's Cardiff base. The new series will feature location filming in the US and around the world and is being made by BBC Worldwide Productions.

The first series of the sci-fi drama drama was broadcast on BBC3 in late 2006, with the second run shifting to BBC2 when it was transmitted in early 2008. The third series aired on BBC1 in July last year as a five-part mini-series, Children of Earth, stripped across consecutive nights.

Starz is the US broadcaster behind Spartacus: Blood and Sand, the graphic retelling of the Roman slave revolt story that has just started airing in the UK on Bravo.

The new Torchwood series will be executive-produced by Davies and the Los Angeles-based BBC Worldwide Productions executives Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner.

Torchwood was commissioned by BBC1's controller, Jay Hunt; Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC drama; and Chris Albrecht, Starz president and chief executive.

Stephenson said: "We have a long history of working with many US networks but it is incredibly exciting to be working with Starz for the first time, as well as to be reunited with the best of British in Russell, Jane and Julie. Torchwood will burst back onto the screen with a shocking and moving story with global stakes and locations that will make it feel bigger and bolder than ever."
