As I was driving home last night, in the snow and going a bit slow, I saw a mouse crossing the highway. It was tiny, running and very visible on the wet, blacktop, and thankfully he/she stopped in between the wheel tracks as I past over him.

Then, about 3 miles down the road, I saw this figure. It was a deer, a rather large one, because he was standing in the ditch and his head was still about headlight level.  He was chewing, I saw his jaws grind sideways.  I slowed down because you never know what deer might do, and he looked at the car for a moment, then darted away.

Add that in with the 30 or so robins in the backyard, trying to find something to eat in the ONCE AGAIN snowy landscape and the dead grackle by the junipers, I have the makings of a 'sign', but I have no idea what it means, if anything.

Be aware of mice and deer, feed the robins and bury the grackle?

We call you ocean.

We call you sea, gulf, strait, bight,

stream, lake, pond, spring.

We call you rain.

We call you pool, puddle, snowflake,
glacier, dew, mist, cove, channel, inlet,

We travel your powerful currents to meet our relations.
We flood our rice fields.
We bathe our children.
We cleanse the dead.
We baptise, we purify, we do ablutions,
We immerse in the mikvah.
We heal with you - Holy Water.

We remember to protect you.
We remember to protect you.
We remember to protect you.
We remember to protect you.
